In the early morning hours of August 21, 1863, William Clarke Quantrill and his Confederate raiders descended upon Lawrence, Kansas, burned the town to the ground, and killed 150 men and boys. Now, 150 years later, Quantrill will go on trial for these killings. Was the Lawrence raid a legitimate act of war, just another battle in the bloody Civil War? Or was it something else... a massacre perpetrated in the name of revenge and therefore a war crime?
